Press Club Hyderabad has completed 46 years in its eventful journey towards emerging as one of the prestigious clubs of its kind in the country.

Ever since it moved into its prime location amid a pleasant ambience at Somajiguda, our club has been growing in numbers and diversifying its activities. It has come as a long way since its founding in 1964 as a sponsored unit of the A.P. Union of Working Journalists.

It attained independent status in the early seventies. Over this period, the Press Club Hyderabad has come to known as a centre for intellectual exchange of ideas and professional experience where the media experts and scholars interact on topics of current interests and matters of concern for the fraternity. Top names in the media visit the club regularly.

The facilities in the Press Club are second to none. A well-furnished and compact auditorium is a popular venue in the city for holding press conferences and media related activities. An equally impressive air-conditioned board room is the ideal setting for smaller and more business-like meetings. A full-fledged kitchen and bar make it a perfect picture of a contemporary club.

Frequent get-togethers with members and their families on important festivals and holidays, hosting tete-a-tete with celebrities, publication of a diary and organising symposia to promote professional excellence are some of the highlights of the Club's annual itinerary.

Over the years it has turned into a perfect family club too. The annual picnic with the families of all the members and the New Year eve celebrations are a part of the annual itinerary where people participate enthusiastically. Film personalities also participate in the New Year eve celebrations. Health camps, passport camps and license camps organised exclusively for the members have been particularly appreciated. The club has also acquired philanthropic character also by amending its constitution a few years back.

The club encourages children of members by awarding scholarships who excel in 10th class and Intermediate. All the children of the members who score more than 80 per cent marks are given cash awards every year apart from a certificate and a memento. Cash awards are given by prominent personalities. The late Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was the chief guest in 2008 event while in 2009 awards were given by Hyderabad Mayor, Banda Karthika Reddy and some film personalities.

Working journalists constitute the core of the Press Club's membership of around 750 professionals. About 250 associate members are also part of the club who hail from other wings of the media like advertising, public relations and corporate communications and they are closely connected with print and electronic media.  A few corporate houses are also part of the club.

Press Club Hyderabad is the much sought-after club today because of the vision of some senior members of the profession and sustained hardwork of various executive committees elected by the members.
